Le Spose di Giò Celebrates 50 Years of Excellence in Couture Bridal Fashion
Monza, May 2025 – Le Spose di Giò marks a significant milestone: 50 years of history, creativity, and passion in the world of couture bridal fashion. A story led by women, it began in May 1975, when Giovanna De Capitani—then creative director of a renowned Milanese fashion house—returned to Monza to open her own atelier. Her revolutionary vision stemmed from a personal experience: when planning her own wedding, she encountered a bridal market disconnected from fashion, and lacking in simplicity. From that moment, she set out to design bridal gowns that fused clean lines, elegance, and contemporary style.
The first atelier, a 70-square-meter space in the heart of Monza, quickly became a reference point. Brides-to-be would queue outside the door, drawn by a new, refined aesthetic. Soon after, she was joined by her sister Marisa, an architect with a natural sense of style, who brought additional creative strength to the brand and became its artistic director. Her interpretations of the bridal image left a lasting mark and continue to inspire the international bridal world today.
Over the years, Le Spose di Giò expanded its presence with boutiques in Bologna, Bergamo, Varese, London, Bari, and Palermo, bringing Italian taste to the global stage. Today, as from the beginning, the brand’s production remains entirely Italian and based in Monza. It maintains its family identity and strong international outlook, with distribution in the USA, China, Japan, South Korea, and throughout Europe.
In 2023, Le Spose di Giò was recognized among the top 100 Italian companies in Parliament—an acknowledgment of its impact in the national creative and entrepreneurial landscape. The De Capitani sisters remain the creative heart and owners of the company, now joined by the next generation: Chiara, who embodies both continuity and innovation.
Many renowned figures have chosen to wear a Le Spose di Giò gown: from Jane Fonda’s daughter to Antonella Clerici and Roberta Capua, as well as prominent Italian families such as the Benettons and the Cerettos, and sports icons like Casiraghi and Albertini. The brand’s creations have also appeared in acclaimed film and television productions, both Italian and international: Un passo dal cielo, Il Patriarca, DOC – Nelle tue mani, Studio Battaglia, L’allieva, Mina Settembre, Il commissario Montalbano, La Piovra, and even the U.S. series House, M.D., as well as in films and campaigns featuring Martina Colombari, Alessia Marcuzzi, Asia Argento, Matilde Gioli, and Ilenia Pastorelli, to name just a few.
Le Spose di Giò gowns have recently starred in major advertising campaigns, including Crodino, Mercedes, and Be Rebel. In 2024, Lilian de Carvalho Monteiro—wife of former tennis champion Boris Becker—chose a soft, delicate gown by Le Spose di Giò for her wedding in Portofino.
Deeply rooted in its hometown, the company proudly keeps its headquarters in Monza, welcoming brides from all over the world and inviting them to discover the beauty of the city.
Fifty years later, Le Spose di Giò continues to write its story with the same love, the same vision, and the same spirit that sparked its beginning: creating gowns that tell the unique beauty of every woman on the most important day of her life.
